Understanding Herbal Extracts

"All Tinctures are Extracts, But Not All Extracts Are Tinctures"

Besides making beautiful clean burning custom candles, handcrafted artisan soaps and handmade bath and body products using only the most natural and certified organic ingredients, here at Herbal Scent Candles & Co, we create a range of natural products, from herbal teas, to massage oils and so much more in our apothecary department.

Our blends are specially formulated by expert holistic herbalists who wildcraft and grow their own indigenous herbs and botanicals to use in healing techniques to promote health and encourage complete balance. The herbs we use are not only grown by us, using no commercial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, preservatives or artificial colors, but are also wildcrafted, locally foraged or and sustainably and ethically sourced from reputable herb suppliers, USDA and OTCO Organic Certified Herb suppliers that perform third-party testing to ensure our herbs and botanicals are free from pesticides, toxins, gmo's, and heavy metals.

What Exactly Are Extracts ?

ex•tract 'ek.straekt : a substance taken from a plant, flower, etc. and used especially in food or medicine.

Herbal Extracts are a plant medicine made with a solvent extracting the medicinal properties of a plant. Most extracts are made with  glycerin, vinegar, or water and herbal extracts use any other solvent besides alcohol.

Here we make our extracts using only certified organic vegetable glycerin, and organic cider vinegar.

Due  to their natural origin, they are excellent candidates to replace synthetic compounds, which are generally considered to have toxicological and carcinogenic effects. Natural herbs and extracts have been used to treat various ailments for thousands of years. Modern research has shown that some extracts go a long way in improving our overall health and promoting wellness.

We always allow our extracts to sit for a minimum of 6 weeks and they can still be infusing for up to 2-3 months.

Best Method For Administering Herbal Extracts ?

The best method for administering an herbal extract is by sublingual administration. Simply fill a dropper or small syringe with the liquid and drip it into the mouth, just under the tongue. Hold the extract in the mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. This allows the herbal extract to be absorbed and dissolved into the bloodstream through the mucous membranes in the tiny blood capillaries, therefore absorbing directly and quickly into the system without passing through the digestive system. Rinse the mouth thoroughly with water to get rid of the bitter taste.

If you don’t like the taste of the extract you are taking, a dropperful into water/tea is just fine, but may affect the extracts absorption.
