What Exactly Are Tinctures ?

tinc•ture 'tiŋ(k)-chər. : a solution of a medicinal substance in an alcoholic solvent.

Herbal Tinctures are really quite simple. Tinctures is a plant medicine made with a solvent extracting the medicinal properties of a plant. Most tinctures are made with alcohol but can also be made with vegetable glycerin or apple cider vinegar.

Here we make our tinctures with 151 proof vodka, certified 190 proof cane alcohol, 100 proof vodka or brandy.

The wonderful thing about tinctures is that they concentrate the useful chemical constituents and medicinal properties of a plant.

We always allow our tinctures to sit for a minimum of 6 weeks and they can still be infusing for up to 2-3 months. Tinctures have an amazing shelf life as the high alcohol content preserves them.

Best Method For Administering Tinctures ?

The best method for administering a tincture is by sublingual administration. Simply fill a dropper or small syringe with the liquid and drip it into the mouth, just under the tongue. Hold the tincture in the mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. This allows the tincture to be absorbed and dissolved into the bloodstream through the mucous membranes in the tiny blood capillaries, therefore absorbing directly and quickly into the system without passing through the digestive system. Rinse the mouth thoroughly with water to get rid of the bitter taste.

If you don’t like the taste of the tincture you are taking, a dropperful into water/tea is just fine, but may affect the tinctures absorption.
